National Day Activities @ Home

9 August is our nation's 46th birthday!

The boys have been coming home from school singing the national anthem and also all the celebrating songs such as "Count on me
Singapore", "Home" Just couple of days back, Theodore
asked me the meaning of "Majulah Singapura". Sad to say, I have no idea! So I decided to teach them the meaning of our national anthem and also the national flag.

We started talking about the flag 2 weeks back. They are able to tell me what the symbols stand
for but they do not know what is the meaning. I have attempted to explain to them but I think they probably understand only 50% of it. Its a good start nonetheless, and I do intend to do this every year until they fully understand the meanings. For those who is interested, here are the
meanings:

Red - Universal brotherhood and equality of men
White - Everlasting purity and Virtue
Crescent - Young nation
5 stars - Democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality

This morning we did some flag painting painted and pasted the moon and the stars while

THEe meaning of our national anthme

We round up the morning by learning the meaning of the national anthem.

They got 3 phases right which was an achievement! Because I probably can do only 2! Another exercise that I will continue to do for August 2012!
